Project: Passenger Vehicle Ferry, State of Texas, Galveston Bay Client: Alabama Shipyard, Inc. in contract to the State of Texas
Discussion: The “Robert C. Lanier” is a 263’-4” passenger vehicle ferry with a cycloidal propulsion system, all systems duplicated through bow-stern symmetry, enabling the vessel to traverse port-port without turning around. Maritime Design, Inc. was tasked by Alabama Shipyard, Inc. to engineer and produce the complete shipyard production build package in conformance to ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels. The vessel was successfully built and completed in 1989, reviewed and classed by ABS. Maritime Design, Inc. successfully performed all of the design engineering and production details for hull, piping, electrical, outfitting and mechanical. |

Discussion: A Croatian design was acquired by the customer for construction in the U.S. Maritime Design, Inc. was tasked to re-convey all of the deck structures and successfully completed performance of all steel assembly layouts, cnc lofting/nesting, weldments, steel plate edge bevel cuts, flange and roll insructions, stiffener tables with end-cut details, piece marking, girder details and pipe penetrations. |
